August is Child Support Awareness Month in Placer County
Published on August 06, 2015
The Placer County Department of Child Support Services is taking its show on the road.
In recognition of Child Support Awareness Month, child support professionals with the department will be available to the public at select locations throughout the county during month of August 2015.
August is traditionally designated by the County of Placer, and the State of California as a time to highlight the services available to parents to ensure their children have the financial and medical resources to succeed. The Placer County Department of Child Support Services is taking Awareness Month even more literally this year, setting up outdoor information booths all the way from Roseville to Tahoe City.
“Child support has a real impact on the lives and wellbeing of Placer County children and families,” said Janine Martindale, a Child Support Specialist with the department. “We want everyone who could possibly benefit from these services to be aware of their existence.”
Child support professionals will be out every Tuesday during the month of August at locations specifically designed to reach out to members of the community who might not have convenient access to the department’s Rocklin and Carnelian Bay offices.
“We want the public to know that the Department of Child Support Services is here to serve the needs of the community, not the needs of the department,” said Child Support Specialist Katherine Owens.
In partnership with local businesses such as Target and Walmart, the department will also be giving away a backpack filled with back-to-school supplies at each Awareness Month event. Child support professionals will also be on hand to answer questions about paternity, how to open a case, and how to modify a court order when financial or custody circumstances change.
Last year, the Placer County Department of Child Support Services collected over $22 million on behalf of families, approximately $1 million more than the previous year, while consistently ranking near the top of all counties in terms of cost effectiveness.
