Final Environmental Docs Released for Martis Valley West Project

Published on May 03, 2016

The final environmental impact report was released today for a proposed development plan in the Martis Valley.

The Martis Valley West Specific Plan consists of two components: a west parcel and an east parcel. The west parcel consists of 1,052 acres; the east parcel contains 6,373 acres. The proposed plan would transfer the rights to build residential and commercial development from the east parcel to the west parcel. Development would take place on 662 acres in the west parcel, while preserving the entire east parcel.

A specific plan establishes criteria for this specific project, whereas the Martis Valley Community Plan broadly sets out conditions and requirements for the wider region.

The land is located in Placer County and the two parcels are on either side of State Route 267. The west parcel is located southeast of the Northstar Resort and east of Sawmill Reservoir. The east parcel is located on forested land that has been already been harvested for timber.

The project will be presented to the North Tahoe Regional Advisory Council May 12 at 6 p.m. The NTRAC meeting will be held at the Tahoe City Public Utility District Board Room. Both the Placer County Planning Commission and county board of supervisors will hold hearings on the plan at later dates that will be announced when scheduled.
