Public Invited to Community Ceremonies Celebrating Sheridan Projects

Published on May 27, 2014

Placer County is inviting the public to attend ribbon-cutting ceremonies that will be held Friday, May 30 to celebrate the completion of two projects in Sheridan: Riosa Road improvements and the expansion of the community’s water system.

At 12:30 p.m., a brief ribbon-cutting will be held at the community’s new well located behind Stewart Hall, 6005 Camp Far West Road.

At 1 p.m., the main ceremony will take place to commemorate both completion of the Riosa Road improvements and the public water system project. It will take place at the intersection of Riosa and 12th Street.

Part of Riosa Road will be closed during the event. Detour signs will direct motorists to alternative routes.

The list of speakers scheduled to participate in the second ceremony includes:

  • Placer County Supervisor Robert M. Weygandt, Sheridan’s representative on the Board of Supervisors;
  • Chairman Jim Houck of the Sheridan Municipal Advisory Council; and
  • Doug Colucci, an area specialist for USDA Rural Development. USDA helped fund the water-system improvements.

The 1 p.m. ceremony also will feature a musical performance by students from Sheridan Elementary School. Refreshments will be served.

Friday’s ceremonies will be hosted by Placer County, the Sheridan Municipal Advisory Council and the elementary school.

The County improved Riosa Road between Ninth and 12th streets, installing subsurface drainage improvements, curbs, gutters, sidewalks, landscaping and a road-surface overlay.

The new well, a storage tank, pump station and piping were installed for the water supply and distribution project. Benefits include providing fire-flow capacity to the elementary school and capacity for about 130 new water-system connections. The latter allowed the County to lift a long-standing moratorium on new connections.
