The public will get a chance to check out the new carpeting and linoleum in the Auburn Library when it reopens at 10 a.m. Friday, May 22.

The Auburn branch of the Placer County Library has been closed since May 1 while almost 16,000 square feet of new flooring was installed to replace carpeting and linoleum that were in bad shape after 21 years of high-traffic use.

The branch library will resume normal operations on Friday.

“We are excited about welcoming the community back,” said Director of Library Services Mary George. “I appreciate the library community’s support and patience, and can’t wait to show everyone how the new flooring and a few other changes have given the library a new, fresh atmosphere that everyone will appreciate.”

She thanked county Capital Improvements and Building Maintenance staff for their work on the project. County capital improvements funds were used to pay for the new flooring. No library operational funds were used.

The old carpet was installed in 1994. The life expectancy for flooring in high-use community libraries is typically 10 to 15 years.
