Placer County Voters Favor Incumbents as Election Count Wraps up for the Night
Published on June 08, 2016
Placer County’s incumbent board of supervisors members Jim Holmes, Kirk Uhler and Jennifer Montgomery hold on to solid leads as vote counting in Placer County concludes for the night. United States House of Representatives members Doug LaMalfa and Tom McClintock also maintain double digit margins over their challengers, as do Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump in their party primaries.
This evening’s final Placer County vote count includes more than 44,000 mail-in ballots received before the polls closed at 8 p.m. Tuesday, and more than 26,000 ballots cast at Placer’s polling sites.
The latest vote count is posted on Placer County’s elections website.
Final, certified results - including provisional ballots needing verification and eligible mail-in ballots not yet received - will be posted within 30 days. Jurisdictions have up to 30 days to complete a post-election audit of the election called a canvass.
During the canvass, absentee and provisional ballots not counted on election night are researched to validate eligibility. The ballots cast in one randomly-selected precinct in each of the five county supervisorial districts are manually tallied and balanced against the computer counts to verify the accuracy of the election tally system. Election officials are also responsible for preparing the county’s official ballot statement, listing the exact number of voted ballots, unused ballots, spoiled ballots, roster signatures and more. The canvass concludes with the certification and issuance of official election results.
At the November 2014 election, approximately 25,000 provisional, absentee and damaged ballots remained to be processed after election night.
