Placer County launches new podcast with harrowing tale of lost hiker Cody Michael
Published on December 07, 2016
Rocklin hiker Cody Michael made international news last May when he went missing in one of the most rugged areas of Placer County. Found four days later after an exhaustive search, his ordeal holds lessons for anyone who enjoys exploring the great outdoors.
Now Cody, his father, Howard, and Sgt. Ty Conners of the Placer County Sheriff’s Office share the most detailed account yet of Cody’s harrowing story and the tremendous lengths undertaken to find him in the first episode of Placer County’s new podcast series, “The Placer Life."
“The Placer Life” will share gripping, touching, humorous or interesting stories of the amazing people and places of Placer County - to help improve awareness of county programs, services and issues, as well as to help build a sense of community and appreciation of this special place.
A recent Edison Research study indicates that 21 percent of Americans regularly listen to podcasts today, the same percentage that uses Twitter. To maintain a proactive and engaging dialogue with its residents, Placer County strives to communicate using modern and relevant mediums. Podcasts increasingly are a key way to reach Placer residents wherever they get their news and information.
“The Placer Life” is free for streaming and download in the iTunes and Google Play stores, through the Stitcher and TuneIn apps and on Soundcloud. In addition to the Cody Michael episode, a fascinating account of the World War II homefront war effort, featuring original Rosie the Riveter and long-time Placer resident Betty Samson, is also available.
“The Placer Life” is produced in-house by Placer County’s Communications and Public Affairs Office using existing staff and resources. Listeners with questions or ideas for stories can reach us via email or at 530-886-4646.
