Multigenerational Community Center Study

Multigenerational Community Center RenderingPlacer County, along with their planning consultant team and local community organizations, is evaluating the feasibility of a potential multigenerational community center in the Auburn area. The center would support programs, events, and activities for a wide range of ages, abilities, and community needs through joint partnering of community-based organizations. This feasibility study is intended to determine the need and evaluate opportunities and constraints for a community center facility through a deliberate process of investigation, analysis, and concept development.

Feasibility Study Mission

Through a community-inclusive process, determine the viability of a potential community center that provides programs for a wide range of ages in the greater Auburn area.

Feasibility Study Purpose

The feasibility study will identify the need and vision for a potential community center, describe opportunities and constraints, costs and potential funding sources for identified project options.

After many meetings and several community workshops, the study process has resulted in two potential multigenerational center concepts in North Auburn. Both envision community program components that support the enrichment of the spirit, mind and body. A senior center, teen center, youth programs, childcare and café are potential elements meant to enrich the spirit. Classrooms, conference spaces, arts and technology labs support the mind. Fitness-oriented spaces and other potential recreation programming areas provide for the body.

Concept 1: Placer County Government Center

The first concept is based on a new community center facility, custom designed and constructed at the Placer County Government Center in North Auburn and operated through a joint partnership of community organizations. This approach takes advantage of potentially available County land and complimentary County functions and employee population at the government center. This concept is intended to include the program elements mentioned in the description above as well as potential black box theatre space.

Concept 2: North Auburn Campus

The second concept involves leasing the existing underutilized Parkside Nazarene Church as a community center at Regional Park in North Auburn and operated through a joint partnership of community organizations. This approach takes advantage of an existing large community-oriented building with complimentary adjacent facilities, including, potentially, Auburn Recreation District’s gym facility and expansive Regional Park. Additionally, the facility is next door to and can potentially take advantage of existing classroom space at the Placer Union High School District’s Chana High School campus. This concept is intended to include the program elements mentioned in the description as well as a potential 850-plus person performing arts theatre space.
