Indian Gaming Grant Award 2014

In December 2014, the Placer County Probation Department purchased, with financial support from the Placer County Indian Gaming Local Community Benefit Committee, the Correctional Assessment and Intervention System (CAIS). CAIS is an evidence-based assessment which consists of an 85 question evaluation interview, and, upon completion, generates a comprehensive report with supervision recommendations. The CAIS alerts Probation Officers to behaviors, attitudes, and concerns they will likely encounter during the supervision of an individual, and supports officers in developing an individualized and collaborative case-management style.

The National Council on Crime and Delinquency maintains a data base and provides real time outcome data for all CAIS assessments completed, contributing to increased agency efficiency and effectiveness. To date, the department has conducted 1,769 initial CAIS risk assessments and 639 full CAIS assessments. A target date of June 01, 2015, is established to have full CAIS assessments completed for all Placer County residents risking Moderate to high under probation supervision.

The Placer County Probation Department greatly appreciates the contribution made by the Placer County Indian Gaming Local Community Benefit Committee (LCBC) in support of this improved business practice intended to foster community safety and reduce recidivism.
