Apply for a Solar Permit

There are two options for submitting a solar system permit: in person or by email.

In Person

  • Print and complete the Solar Permit Application and Checklist (PDF) on 8.5- by 11-inch paper.
  • Provide a complete set of detailed solar plans, including a completed site plan showing all structures, septic system, setbacks (verify setbacks with planning by email) on 11- by 17-inch paper drawn to an acceptable scale (like 1 inch equals 10 feet or 1 inch equals 20 feet).
  • Office submittals will be issued over the counter after review and approval of a complete submittal and payment of permit fee.

Incomplete submittals will be returned to the applicant.

By Email

  • Complete the Solar Permit Application (PDF) and associated attached documents online.
  • Complete and scan the required complete set of detailed solar plans, including a completed site plan showing all structures, septic system, setbacks (verify setbacks with Planning by email) on 11- by 17-inch paper drawn to an acceptable scale (like 1 inch equals 10 feet or 1 inch equals 20 feet).
  • There is a "Submit" button at the bottom of the permit application form that you can use to submit your application by email. Attach all associated documents, including the plans, to the email. After the submittal is approved by all department/divisions you will receive an email with a request for the permit fee.
  • Once the payment has been received (pay application fees online) we will mail the approved permit, plans and associated documents to the applicant within 1 to 3 business days after approval for email submittals.

Incomplete submittals will be returned to the applicant.

More Information

  • Expedited solar permitting is available, in our offices or via email, for small roof top and ground mount solar systems (less than 10 kilowatts).
  • mPOWER is a Property Assessed Clean Energy (Pace) program. It provides financing for both residential and non-residential property owners to make energy efficiency improvements, as well as solar and water conservation measures. PACE is unique, in that, the financing will be repaid by adding the annual installments to the property tax bill.
