CHP OFFICER PLEADS NOT GUILTY

TO DRUGS AND WEAPONS CHARGES

California Highway Patrol Officer Ruben Cesar Salgado pleaded not guilty to eight charges related to possession of drugs and weapons during his arraignment today in Placer County Superior Court.

Salgado, 37, entered the plea before Judge Colleen Nichols, who continued the proceeding to Friday to allow the officer time to hire an attorney.

Nichols kept Salgado’s bail at $200,000 and granted a motion by the Placer County District Attorney’s Office that any bond posted by the defendant must be examined to make sure the money is not from a possible drug source.

Salgado was arrested Tuesday in Rocklin by investigators from the CHP and the Placer County District Attorney’s Office following a two-month probe.

Among charges are possession and transportation of methamphetamine, driving under the influence of a controlled substance and possession of a firearm while under the influence.

Deputy District Attorney Jeff Wilson represented the people in today’s arraignment. The case will be prosecuted by Deputy District Attorney Doug Van Breemen.
