BIG RIG TRUCK DRIVER FACES SENTENCING FOR CAUSING DEATH OF MOTORIST ON SIDE OF ROAD

A 35-year-old man whose big rig truck drifted to the shoulder of the road and killed a man who was outside his vehicle is facing probation to one year in the Placer County jail after pleading no contest to a misdemeanor charge of manslaughter without gross negligence.

Lakhwinder Sidhu of Ontario, Canada, is scheduled for sentencing in Placer County Superior Court on August 6.

Killed in the April 11, 2008, accident on eastbound Interstate 80 near the Newcastle exit was Miguel Ramos, 42, of Bakersfield, who had pulled off the roadway because of trouble with his tow truck, according to Placer County Deputy District Attorney Matt Block.
