SACRAMENTO MAN FACES 7 YEARS, 8 MONTHS IN STATE PRISON FOR RAPE CASE IN AUBURN
A 24-year-old Sacramento man is facing a state prison sentence of seven years and eight months for raping a female acquaintance who gave him a ride to Auburn in May.
Shirfraz Ali is scheduled for the sentencing October 28 in Placer County Superior Court in a case in which he pleaded no contest Wednesday to felony rape, assault using force and the unlawful taking of another person’s vehicle.
Prosecutors for the Placer County District Attorney’s Office said the victim drove Ali to Auburn to conduct business on the afternoon of May 29 but that he sexually attacked her and also choked her on a rural road.
The woman escaped by jumping out of the car and flagging down a passing vehicle, Deputy District Attorney Jeff Wood said in court Wednesday. Ali then drove away in the woman’s car, he said.
