Gold Hill Road bridge set for replacement in spring 2019
Published on November 21, 2018
The aging Gold Hill Road bridge over Auburn Ravine is set for replacement next year, with the Placer County Board of Supervisors awarding a $2.9 million construction contract for the project.
In a unanimous vote, the board awarded the contract to Bridgeway Civil Constructors Inc, the lowest responsible and responsive bidder.
“The integrity of our bridges is very important to Placer County infrastructure,” said Placer County Board of Supervisors Chairman Jim Holmes. “The Placer County Department of Public Works has been dedicated to working with the community to ensure they are prepared to plan for this important structural update.”
The existing bridge was built in 1930, is deteriorating structurally and is too narrow for modern vehicles. This very needed replacement is tentatively scheduled for spring 2019 and is expected to close the road from April through November 2019.
“Our department has been working to communicate construction dates and impacts to the local community to help make sure they’re prepared,” said Matt Randall, Placer County Public Works Department. “Using the community input received, the design for the replacement will preserve the area’s rural character while providing safe access for residents, emergency vehicles, trucks and other users.”
This project is fully funded through the Federal Highway Bridge Program. The department plans to use a maximum of $300,000 of Rural Surface Transportation Exchange Funds for a period of three months to fund construction until Federal funds are obligated.
