Construction contract awarded for Dowd Road bridge replacement

The aging Dowd Road bridge over Markham Ravine near Lincoln is set for replacement this year, with the Placer County Board of Supervisors awarding a $2.6 million construction contract for the project at the March 26 board meeting.

In a unanimous vote, the board awarded the contract to Viking Construction Company Inc., the lowest responsible and responsive bidder.

The existing bridge was built in 1940 and does not meet current standards due to its narrow roadways and declining structural condition. The project will build a new concrete bridge and approximately 400 feet of roadway approaches on both sides of the bridge.

The replacement is scheduled to begin this spring and the road is expected to be closed as early as late April through fall 2019. This will be a single-year project.

This project is fully funded through the Federal Highway Bridge Program.
