Building Maintenance Division receives award for excellence

Placer's Building Maintenance Division in April received one of the state's top awards for excellence in their field.

The 2018 award of excellence from the California Counties Facilities Services Association is given to counties that demonstrate best practices for facilities management, as reviewed by a panel of CCFSA facilities managers.

“This award process helped us enhance our facilities management operations,” Facilities Management Deputy Director Brad Boulais said. “It allowed us to look for ways to improve the delivery of services and manage the department more effectively.”

Placer County was recognized for department automation, staff development, environmental improvements and energy-saving programs.

The detailed application process covered areas including: condition assessment programs, continuous improvement programs, energy management programs and staff training programs.

The application process for the award also helped facilities staff self-assess the effectiveness of maintenance programs and consolidate processes in one place; which in turn allows a better understanding of procedures both internally and externally, and streamlines learning during the onboarding process for new employees.

2018 was the first year that Placer County applied for the award. Only three other counties--San Diego, Sacramento and Ventura received the award last year.
