Placer seeks public input on parks, trails and landscapes in Granite Bay

Placer County is seeking public input to help shape Granite Bay’s parks, trails and landscapes at the Eureka School District Campus in Granite Bay, with a community discussion meeting set for Oct. 12.

The discussion is part of the county’s outreach efforts for the first-ever countywide park and trail master plan, a 10-year vision for the development and operation of parks and trails in the county and is intended to reflect the recreational needs of individual communities from the valley to the mountains. The master plan is intended to update the county’s general plan recreational standards put in place in 1994.

County staff will present the findings of the recent Placer County Parks and Trails Master Plan survey and what the Granite Bay community identified as recreation priorities, such as more playing fields - one of the top choices selected by survey participants.

As part of the meeting, Eureka Union School District will discuss their vision to redevelop the Eureka School District Campus to provide new sports fields, multi-purpose community center, and gymnasium.

“Granite Bay is one of Placer County’s most active communities when it comes to youth sports. The concept of redeveloping an existing campus, with its existing parking and infrastructure, offers an exciting and rare opportunity to provide more play area at a fraction of the cost of brand new construction,” said Placer County Parks Administrator Andy Fisher. “We are excited to hear the community’s voice on how we can move forward and meet the recreational needs of Granite Bay."

In addition to recreational playing fields, county staff will highlight other opportunities stemming from the survey results including improving landscaped areas and public use trails.

The community meeting will be held Oct. 12 at 6-7 p.m., at the Eureka School District Campus, Resource Room, 5455 Eureka Road, in Granite Bay.
