- Campfires banned at Bear River
Published on July 21, 2017
Due to the high risk of fire, Placer County is implementing open fire restrictions for the popular Bear River Park and Campground, effective July 24 through the end of camping season, Oct. 31.
To help further reduce fire risk, the Placer County Parks and Recreation Department will be posting fire restriction signage, securing park-provided fire rings and patrolling the campground - citing those who violate the fire restriction.
Use of metal camp stoves will be permitted during the restriction.
“Bear River Park and Campground sits at the bottom of a canyon between Colfax and Weimar,” said Placer County Parks and Recreation Director Andy Fisher. “It is critical that we take appropriate measures to protect these communities and wilderness from wildfires while keeping the park open and safe for people to enjoy."
The 200-acre Bear River Park and Campground, located along the Bear River between Weimar and Colfax, offers family and group camping, fishing and a multi-use trail network for horses, hikers and bikers.
