Placer County garbage collection services continue through COVID-19 closures; county officials caution against illegal dumping

Published on March, 30

Due to a recent increase of illegal dumping and litter, Placer County officials are urging residents to continue to properly dispose of household trash through their regular collection service.

Since facilities are having to limit their drop-off services due to COVID-19, county officials have observed illegal dumping and an increase in litter at some cardboard recycling drop-off areas, which can cause additional sanitary problems.

“It’s important to continue to properly dispose of household trash to maintain public health and safety.” said Kevin Bell, Deputy Director of Placer County Public Works. “Solid waste collection and removal is considered an essential service, so while some public waste drop-off services have been reduced or restricted as the COVID-19 situation evolves, regular commercial and residential garbage collection service continues.”

Western Placer County

Placer County residents outside of the city limits of Lincoln and Roseville who do not subscribe to residential garbage collection can contact Recology Auburn Placer at (530) 885-3735 or by visiting their website (shown below) to establish service.

Recology continues to offer debris box delivery (call to schedule) and will continue to collect extra bags placed at curbside on normal collection days (charges apply).

Currently the Transfer Stations in Auburn, Foresthill and Meadow Vista, operated by Recology, are open to the public for check and credit card payment only, and the Western Placer Waste Management Authority is closed to anyone who does not have a WPWMA credit account; open only to commercial waste haulers from Recology, Lincoln and Roseville on the weekends. CRV buy-back centers are closed at all facilities until further notice.

With public drop-off limited, people are encouraged to save their Household Hazardous Waste and electronic waste in a safe place until regular services resume.

As Recology green waste and two-yard dump passes arrive in mailboxes, customers are advised to check the websites below or call the facilities to confirm their current operations:
