The Board approved a new program on February 16, 2021 dedicated to securing the existing housing inventory for local workforce. The program pays homebuyers and new housing developers in exchange for deed restricting their home so that it can only be occupied by local workers.

A new ordinance and fee program was adopted by the County Board of Supervisors on October 27, 2020. The new ordinance aimed at boosting affordable housing in Placer County took effect on January, 1 2020.

A potential housing development at 3225 North Lake Boulevard in Tahoe City. This site could provide new housing in various unit types for a range of household incomes. It is an ideal placement close to jobs, transit, trails, recreation, and other services.
A new for-sale housing development located in Martis Valley for the Tahoe-Truckee workforce. Forty units (20 half-plexes), each with 3 bedrooms, 2.5 baths, and a garage, will be constructed and sold to local workers.
Placer County has broken ground with developer Mercy Housing on an affordable housing project at the Placer County Government Center in Auburn. This project will result in a 79-unit apartment and townhome development known as Mercy North Auburn.
