$4 million in lodging tax dollars for North Tahoe
This week the Placer County Board of Supervisors voted to finalize the creation of the North Lake Tahoe Tourism Business Improvement District - freeing up over $4 million in transient occupancy tax for transportation and workforce housing projects while also generating an additional $6 million in assessment revenue for North Lake Tahoe annually.

Hidden Falls Park reduced project
The Placer County Board of Supervisors on March 8 approved the Hidden Falls Regional Park Trails Expansion Reduced Project, which balances the demand for open space while addressing neighborhood concerns.

Deputy Sheriffs’ Association impasse
Placer County has been engaged in good faith negotiations with the Placer County Deputy Sheriffs’ Association since May of 2019. The parties are currently using impasse procedures to resolve their dispute regarding Measure F and the county’s charter authority to negotiate salaries.

First known case of B.1.1.7 variant detected
The first known case of the B.1.1.7 variant of SARS-CoV-2 has been detected in Placer County. Early data suggests that the B.1.1.7 variant, dubbed the “U.K. variant” because of its spread in the United Kingdom, has potential for increased transmissibility. Applications available for Placer County renters
Placer County is accepting applications for emergency rental assistance through April 30, 2021 at RentHelpPlacer.com. Income eligible households who are unable to pay for rent and utilities because of COVID-19 are encouraged to start the application process now.

County seeks relief from state in DSA negotiations
On March 19, 2021, the County of Placer filed an Unfair Practice Charge (UPC) with the California Public Employment Relations Board arising out of ongoing negotiations with the Placer County Deputy Sheriff’s Association (PCDSA). Placer County has engaged in good faith negotiations with PCDSA since May 2019 in order to establish a new collective bargaining agreement.

Community-led wildfire preparedness efforts
Heading into the 2021 fire season, Placer County still has one of the largest Firewise USA Communities networks in the state. Growing to 62 official Firewise Communities in 2021 with 62 more communities at various stages of formation, Placer County stands prepared for wildfire.

CAP Committee projects approved
The Martis Valley Trail and the Fanny Bridge Community Revitalization Project were among nine projects approved by the Board of Supervisors on Tuesday for approximately $1.4 million in lodging tax funding to support community priorities in eastern Placer County.
