Statement from Placer County Executive Officer Todd Leopold

Published on March 31, 2021

On behalf of the individuals identified below, I will take a brief moment to respond to The Sacramento Bee article published today regarding Placer County Sheriff Devon Bell and the Placer County Sheriff’s Office. The article recounts the healthy discussion between Placer County departments, mainly our Health and Human Services Department, surrounding the death of an individual that occurred shortly after receiving a COVID-19 vaccination. In an attempt to sensationalize the internal county discussion, The Sacramento Bee maligns Sheriff Bell and the good men and women who work for the Placer County Sheriff’s Office. I, along with the individuals below, know that Sheriff Bell and his staff are persons of the highest level of integrity. We fully support the Sheriff and Placer County Law Enforcement in their effort to safeguard the people and property of Placer County along with the men and women in our Health and Human Services Department who continue to work diligently and with integrity to support the health and well-being of our communities.

Signed,
