Personal Property

If the Placer County Sheriff’s Office, Coroner’s Unit has taken personal property of your loved one during the course of an investigation for safekeeping, it will be available for release at our office for one month following the date of death. At this point it will be transferred to the Placer County Sheriff's Office, Evidence Department and will be available for release at their discretion until six months after the date of death; after which the Evidence Department will reach out to next-of-kin of guidance.

 Only the legal next-of-kin(s) is authorized to pick up property for their loved one. That being said, should they request to authorize another individual to collect property in their place, please fill out the Release Authorization Form and return it to our office with a picture/scan of the next-of-kin's government identification.

This form can also be utilized in instances where there are multiple next-of-kin's but only one will be collecting property
Ex: three adult children are legal next of kin but only one will be picking up property. Please have one of the two children who is NOT picking up property fill out this form and return it to our office.
