About the Facility

Placer County’s Juvenile Detention Facility, located in DeWitt Center, opened on March 2, 2000. Youth who sustain an arrest for law violations in Placer County may be delivered to the Juvenile Detention Facility by one of the law enforcement agencies within the County. Detention beyond 48 hours requires that formal charges be filed by the District Attorney’s office and must be authorized by the Juvenile Court. Juveniles may be detained while Court proceedings are pending or while awaiting a Court commitment to another facility. Short-term commitments to the Juvenile Detention Facility can also be ordered as a sanction for misconduct and as a condition of probation.

Placer Youth Center

PYC PhotoThe Placer Youth Center (PYC) is an in-house placement opportunity designed to keep Placer County youth near their families, rather than send them out of county to bootcamps or group homes. Our mission is to deliver a comprehensive commitment placement program intended to provide youth the tools needed for success upon reentry into our community. PYC is a safe, structured, home-like environment. Probation staff work closely with Wraparound, Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA), Children’s System of Care (CSOC), Placer County Office of Education (PCOE), Golden Sierra, Granite Wellness, Juvenile Family Treatment Court (JFTC), Youth Empowerment Services (YES!), ACTion team, and social workers utilizing education, programming, and services to foster positive change and healthy habits for our youth.
