Chief Estes began his career with CAL FIRE in Southern California and over the last 32 years has promoted through the ranks from Firefighter to Fire Chief and has worked in some of the most demanding and operationally heavy assignments in the Department.
Chief Estes spent 17 years assigned to Type I Incident Command Teams as an Operations Section Chief, Deputy Incident Commander, and from 2013 to 2018, was selected as the Incident Commander for Team 6. Chief Estes was one of the founding members of the Sacramento Regional Type III IMT, was the CAL FIRE Liaison for FEMA USAR Task Force 7, and is a graduate of CIMC, AAIMS, and S-620
Chief Estes is a three time recipient of the Director’s Award for Superior Accomplishment and has dedicated much of his career to instruction and leadership including 7 years instructing Incident Management III. He has served on the statewide IMT Committee, Interagency WUI Development Group, PPE Working Group, Department Branding Group, the Local Government Advisory Committee and is currently the Chair of the Statewide Uniform Advisory Committee.
Chief Estes is a certified Chief Officer and graduated from California State University, Chico with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Information and Communication Studies.
