Upcoming Correctional Officer I Test
December 20, 2022 (Registration deadline November 30, 2022)
The physical fitness testing and written exam will occur on the same day. Qualified applicants will receive notice via mail as to the date, time, and location of each test. Applicants must pass each test to continue the hiring process.
The test begins promptly at the designated time. Applicants should plan to arrive at least 30 minutes prior.
The written test and physical agility exam are waived for all peace officers and correctional officers who have been employed by a law enforcement agency within the past 12-months.

After
Candidates who successfully complete the written exam and physical agility test will be required to successfully complete each of the following steps before proceeding to the background process:
- Pre-interview screening questionnaire
- Oral board interview
- Command staff interview
Applicants must successfully complete each portion of the hiring process to remain eligible.
Step 1: Application Submission Online

Step 2: Physical Fitness Test and Written Exam (Waived for Laterals)
- Physical fitness test and written exam will be taken on the same day. Expect the tests to take up most of the day.
- Applicants who successfully complete both tests will be notified of their ranking by County H.R.
Step 3: Interview Process
- Eligible applicants will receive a pre-interview questionnaire which must be completed and returned to Placer County Sheriff’s Office H.R. by the given deadline.
- Eligible applicants will be invited to interview with an oral board.
- Eligible applicants will be invited to interview with the Captains panel.
Step 4: Background process
- Eligible applicants will be given a Personal History Statement which must be completed and returned within 10 days.
- Eligible applicants will be scheduled a psychological exam.
- Eligible applicants will be scheduled a medical evaluation.
- Eligible applicants will be given a start date.

Additional Pay Opportunities
Night Shift- 7.5%

Jail Training Officer- 5% of base salary when training
Critical Incident Response Team- $125 per pay period
Canine Handler- $300per month for canines owned by the county
Overtime is compensated in pay or compensatory time off at one and one half time such employees rate

Correctional Officer II are eligible to test for the rank of sergeant after two years of service with Placer County.
Retirement
Placer County participates in the California Public Employees Retirement System
Current CalPERS members laterally transferring to Placer County will generally be placed in the 3% at 55 Local Safety formula. New hires will generally be placed in the 2.7% at 57 Local Safety formula.

Vacation
0-2 Years: 10 day per year

Maximum accrual
- 400 hours with less than 10 years of service

Shift Schedule
Placer County employs a bi-weekly, 80 hour pay period. During each pay period, Correctional Officers work six 12-hour shifts and one eight-hour shift.
