Parole Hearing Date(s): July 28, 2022 / Aug. 10, 2022

Dear Chairman and Parole Board Members,

Please DO NOT grant a parole date to convicted murderers, Brandon Fernandez and Daniel Bezemer.

On the fateful night in September 2003, the evening started like any other evening. Daniel Bezemer and Justine Vanderschoot had dinner with her parents before going out. But that night, Daniel Bezemer and his friend, Brandon Fernandez, had a plan to murder Justine and bury her body in the woods. They strangled Justine and buried her in a hole they had dug.

After weeks of searching, Justine’s body was found in Applegate, California. Her father remembers Placer County Sheriff's detectives, accompanied by a chaplain, arriving at the family's Christian Valley home at 11 p.m. that evening to deliver the news that no parent should ever have to hear. That their daughter was never coming home.

Justine was a beautiful and intelligent young woman whose life was taken under the most horrific and cruel circumstances. Our community will continue to honor Justine and fight to ensure her murderers remain where they belong – in prison. Placer County will never forget.

Please deny parole to convicted murderers, Brandon Fernandez and Daniel Bezemer, for the maximum time allowed by State of California law.

Thank you for your consideration.

Sincerely,
