The curbside chipping program is supported in part by federal/state grants secured through various partnerships:

Truckee Fire Protection District
The Truckee Fire Protection District offers green waste curbside pickup and chipping. Visit their website for more information.
Lake Tahoe Portion of Placer County
Call 530-584-2322 or view the Defensible Space Chipping website for more information. This program is managed by the North Tahoe Fire Protection District for the Placer County portion of Lake Tahoe, including the Olympic Valley and Alpine Meadows areas.
Composting
Composting is easy and can be done at home. Contact the UC Davis Master Gardeners' Rotline at 530-889-7399 for information on how to compost.
