California Mortgage and Property Tax Relief

The California Mortgage Relief Program uses federal Homeowner Assistance Funds to help homeowners with a mortgage, a reverse mortgage, or who are mortgage-free get caught up on past-due housing payments and property taxes. The program is absolutely free and the funds do not need to be repaid.

As of June 13, 2022, the program also allowed for unpaid property taxes for all eligible homeowners to be covered by the program.

Eligibility Requirements For Property Tax Assistance:

  • Homeowner experienced a COVID-19 related financial hardship after January 21, 2020
  • Homeowner only owns one residential property such as a single-family home, condominium, or permanently affixed manufactured home
  • Homeowner's residential property is the homeowner's primary residence (where they live)
  • Homeowner missed 1 property tax payment prior to May 31, 2022 and is currently past due
  • Household income is at or below 150% of the Area Median Income (AMI) for Placer County
