In June 2019, the Placer County Economic Development Board unanimously agreed to sponsor a Business Retention and Expansion Project, building on the data set forth in the Placer County Employment Profile Reports, authored by Beacon Economics. The Placer County Regions Business Retention and Expansion Project (PCRBRE) is a Placer County regions collaborative effort, including all six cities/town, unincorporated area, chambers, business associations, business/industry organizations, non-profit organizations, educational institutions, and businesses/industries of various types and size. Because of this wide network of participation, the Placer County Economic Development Board, with its industry, education, non-profit, and elected leadership representation, is uniquely qualified to be the project sponsor.
We were fortunate to have retained Dr. Thornberg of Beacon Economics, on September 18, 2019, to make a presentation to the Economic Development Board and larger community. Over the last several years, Beacon Economics has been on the cutting edge of working with local governments in the analysis of confidential data from the State Employment Development Department (EDD). In addition to presenting current National, State, and County economic conditions information, Dr. Thornberg spoke in detail about the connection between the EDD data and the PCRBRE Project. Beacon’s proprietary process of collecting, cleaning, and analyzing this important source of data is further enhanced by their ability to focus on defined areas to better understand and track employment, wages, and industry segments.
