Tahoe Transit offers new look, winter routes and expanded hours

Published on December 10, 2015

Beginning this month, Tahoe-Truckee Area Regional Transit, or TART, will be hitting the streets with a new look, winter routes and increased hours of operation, providing for easier travel around North Lake Tahoe and Truckee.

TART and Truckee Transit will become a single unified brand under the TART label. In addition to the new branding, this month marks the return of the free ski shuttle and the voucher program, which offers transfers along TART’s North Shore routes, with connections to Squaw Valley and Northstar.

The transit system uses Nextbus, an online service that gives riders real time locations of buses and the arrival times of the next two buses. In addition to LED signs in bus shelters, the service is available on smart phones. A new shelter in Kings Beach, partially funded by the Placer County Air Pollution Control District, is now operating and includes Nextbus signage. Nextbus is also available at a second Kings Beach shelter.

TART’S Truckee local route will also offer service throughout Truckee, with daily connections to Sugar Bowl, Soda Springs, Donner Ski Ranch and Boreal beginning Dec. 17. Free night rider service begins Dec. 14 to Crystal Bay, Squaw Valley, Tahoe City, Tahoma, and Northstar. Year-round, hourly routes on Highway 267 begin Dec. 14, and hourly daytime service continues between Truckee, Squaw Valley and Tahoe City. Daily, year-round service continues from Tahoma to Incline Village, and between Truckee, Northstar, Kings Beach and Crystal Bay.
