Jury finds local man guilty of attempted murder on local police officer 
AUBURN, Calif. -- A Placer County jury found defendant Rafael Vital, age 27, guilty of attempted murder on a police officerevading a police officer, assault with a semiautomatic firearm and other related charges regarding an attempted murder of a local police officer. 

Specifically, on April 20, 2021, a Roseville police officer tried to pull over Vital, who promptly fled to Interstate 80. While on the freeway, Vital fired two shots at the pursuing officer and ultimately shut down the highway. 

Jury selection began on Jan 12, 2023, and after listening to extensive evidence, the jury returned a guilty verdict on Jan. 20, 2023. 
Sentencing will be on February 15, 2023 at the Placer County Superior Court Department 32.
