Agency seeks input on needs and priorities of older adults
Published on November 12, 2015
Today in California, the population of people older than 60 years tops 7 million. In Placer County, there are approximately 86,500 individuals who fall into this category and that number is increasing. In order to better determine the needs of this growing population, the Agency on Aging | Area 4 is conducting community surveys to gather information.
The surveys seek information about this population to better influence how funding is spent. The goal is to ensure funding aligns with the priorities of the 60-plus population. If you are an older adult, the caregiver of an older adult, an individual working with older adults or an individual concerned about the aging, the agency invites you to share your experiences and concerns by taking one of the surveys.
The Agency on Aging | Area 4 is one of 33 area agencies on aging in California charged with administering the Older Americans Act so that these people and their caregivers may continue living independently in their homes and communities. The agency is a non-profit, joint powers authority serving Nevada, Placer, Sacramento, Sierra, Sutter, Yolo and Yuba counties. Services are supported by federal Older Americans Act funding.
As a joint powers authority, the agency’s governing board members are the county supervisors in the seven county-service region, along with their appointed representatives. This agency has direct input to the supervisors to address gaps in services that are identified through the needs assessment surveys.
To offer input on how services are funded and developed, the agency urges the public to participate in one or more of the surveys. Participants may:
Complete the surveys online at: a4aa; or
Call 530-889-9500, or 800-878-9222 to schedule a phone survey interview or for a location to pick up one of the older adult surveys.
