- Murder complaint against Roseville park shooting suspect

The Placer County District Attorney’s Office filed a criminal complaint against 35-year-old Eric J. Abril for charges of murder, kidnapping causing bodily harm, and attempted murder on a police officer, among other charges as it relates to a local Roseville park shooting that occurred on April 6, 2023.
Specifically, it is alleged the defendant attempted to muder a peace officer in a local Roseville park, which resulted in multiple injuries and one fatality. The complaint also alleges that Abril kidnapped a victim causing bodily harm and murdered another victim in the commission of a kidnapping. The complaint also includes a charge of possession of a firearm by a felon, and allegations that he was previously convicted of a prior serious or violent felony.
This arrest was made by the Roseville Police Department after a standoff with multiple responding agencies.
The defendant appeared in court and the Public Defender’s Office was appointed to represent the defendant. The defendant did not enter a plea and the arraignment was continued to April 18, 2023 at 8:30 a.m. in Department 20. The defendant will be held at the Placer County jail without bail.
