Traditional recreation areas along our rivers may not be safe this year

Recreational activities in or near rivers can be extra dangerous this year due to the significant snowmelt caused by a record-breaking year of snowfall. Locations along the river that have been traditional recreation spots may no longer be accessible or too hazardous to enjoy safely. People should be aware of the potential risks of recreating in these areas, as the water levels can be unpredictable and will be higher than normal. Pay close attention to the current river level and be aware of potential hazards such as strong currents, hidden debris and cold water temperatures.
Visitors are urged to be prepared with the proper safety equipment such as life jackets when participating in recreational activities in areas with high river levels. Never participate in recreational activities alone.
