Written Examination: Qualified applications received by June 7, 2023, at 5:00 p.m., will be invited to participate in the written examination tentatively scheduled for the week of June 26, 2023. Qualified applicants will receive an email notification regarding the next stops in the recruitment process within a week of June 7th, 2023. We will post the actual test date as it becomes available.
The last written examination for the 2023 recruitment year has been tentatively scheduled for the Week of October 30, 2023
Agency Interviews:
It is anticipated interviews will be scheduled within 30 days after the written examination has been completed and scored by the Placer County Department of Human Resources.
Applicants who have successfully passed the written examination will receive notification by the Sheriff’s Office of the Sheriff’s Office Agency interviews occurring.

After the posted filing deadline, qualified candidates will receive a notification via email when the examination is available. The online examination may include multiple choice, true/false, fill-in, matching, and/or essay type questions directly related to the required knowledge and abilities for this classification.

Step 1: Application Submission Online

Step 2: Written Exam
The online written exam will be provided to applicants by County of Placer Human Resources Department (County HR).
Note: Candidates will have approximately three (3) calendar days from the date of notification to complete the online examination. Only one attempt will be permitted.
Step 3: Pre-Interview Questionnaire
- Eligible applicants will receive a pre-interview questionnaire which must be completed and returned to Placer County Sheriff’s Office Background Unit immediately. Applicants who have successfully completed this step of the hiring process will be invited to an interview.
Step 5: Interview Process
- Eligible applicants will be invited to interview with an oral panel consisting of supervisory and management team members. Upon successful completion of the interview applicants will be forwarded to the background investigation.
Step 6: Background process
- Eligible applicants will be given a Personal History Statement which must be completed and returned without delay.
- Applicants who have successfully passed the background process will be scheduled for a pre-employment medical evaluation.
- Applicants who have successfully cleared the medical evaluation will be given a start date.

Per the Placer Public Employees Organization (PPEO) Memorandum of Understanding contract term July 1, 2022, through June 30, 2025, the following general wage increases were negotiated for the General classifications, of which the Administrative Legal Clerk classification fall within.

Collateral Assignments
Some additional assignments may include: NCIC Validation Report, Ordering Forms and Supplies, Warrant Purge Reports, Internet Most Wanted, Office of Inspector General Letters.
Journey Level Administrative Legal Clerks may qualify to become a trainer and receive the Jail Training Pay while assigned to perform training duties.
Full-Time Assignments:
- Front Counter
The Front Counter team, staffed by Administrative Legal Clerk (ALCs), provides customer support for visitors to the jail. Some of the services provided include processing court-ordered book and releases, checking in professional visitors, monitoring offsite video visitation, and processing bail bonds.
- Visiting
The ALC Visiting team is responsible for checking in personal visitors, facilitating personal via video visits, and enforcing visitation rules.
- Criminal History/Booking
Criminal histories (rap sheets) are an integral part of the custody process. ALCs work closely with arresting agencies and officers to run criminal histories for every arrestee brought into the jail. The rap sheet is utilized by various entities within the custodial system for things such as positively identifying a person in custody, to determine bail amount, or properly classifying inmates based on past arrest, gang affiliation and prison history.
Booking inmates into the Jail Management system involves interviewing the inmate to obtain information that needs to be entered into our local, state, and federal systems. Reviewing paperwork for accuracy and enrolling the inmate into the Jail’s phone system.
- Warrants/CLETS
As the warrant repository for Placer County, this unit manages all criminal warrant activity, including extraditions. In this busy unit, ALCs are responsible for processing all warrants in local, state, and federal databases, monitoring incoming and outgoing nationwide telecommunications and working closely with allied agencies to facilitate warrant service. This is the central telecommunication center for both facilities and are responsible for disseminating these messages to the appropriate jail and unit.

Medical
Several medical plans are offered through CalPERS, including HMO and PPO plans. The county pays up to 80% of the total premium for the PORAC health plan offered by the county.
Dental
The county pays the full premium for the employee; the employee pays the premium for dependents.

Voluntary 457 and 401(k) are available through payroll deduction.

0-2 Years: 10 day per year

Maximum accrual
- 400 hours with less than 10 years of service

Education Allowance
Tuition reimbursement for approved classes up to a maximum of $1,200 per calendar year.
Uniform Allowance
Public Safety Dispatchers are not required to wear a specific uniform during work hours at this time. Uniform allowance for approved classes required to wear uniform during work hours is $765.00 annually.
Shift Schedule
Placer County employs a bi-weekly, 80 hour pay period. During each pay period, Administrative Legal Clerks work six 12-hour shifts and one eight-hour shift. The shifts start at 5:00 AM for Day shifts and 5:00 PM for Night shifts.

Shift Rotations are 4-month time periods and shift and location selections are based upon seniority. The rotations occur in January, May and September of each year. The locations are Auburn or South Placer Jails.
