Learn more about Placer County’s Housing Needs Rezone Program at an upcoming community meeting
Published on June 21, 2023
Between June 27 and Aug. 9, staff from the Community Development Resource Agency will deliver informational presentations on the Placer County Housing Needs Rezone Program to various municipal advisory councils and at a town hall meeting.
All meetings are open to the public.
The Housing Needs Rezone Program is part of the county’s 2021-2029 Housing Element, a comprehensive plan aimed at addressing and accommodating Placer County’s housing needs while ensuring equitable access to housing options. State law requires the county implement a rezone program by May 2024 to identify opportunities for multifamily residential development.
“The Rezone Program is a foundational piece to the housing affordability puzzle,” said Housing Manager Nikki Streegan. “The 2021-2029 Housing Element requires this program in order to set the stage for a diversity of housing types and the opportunity for future generations to grow up here and remain here.”
Properties being rezoned are not obligated to host housing, but the change in zoning will alter the allowable land uses for the property.
The first presentation will be at the Horseshoe Bar/Penryn Municipal Advisory Committee meeting at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, June 27, at Blue Goose Event Center, 3550 Taylor Road, in Loomis.
