Placer County programs win five National Association of Counties awards

Five Placer County programs won awards in the 2016 National Association of Counties Achievement Awards, recognizing innovative county government programs.

All five awards went to Placer County Department of Health and Human Services programs.

“We are honored to be recognized by the National Association of Counties for these trend-setting programs,” said Jeff Brown, Placer County health and human services director. “Placer County has a long history of developing and delivering innovative, cost-effective services to support and promote the health and welfare of our county’s residents.”

Placer’s Children’s System of Care won awards for their Dependency Court Parent Orientation program and Youth Directed Placement Series, both of which help parents with children placed in alternative care receive necessary and helpful information about the child welfare system.

Adult System of Care walked away with an award for their Full Service Partnership Outreach and Housing programs, which engage homeless adults with chronic and severe mental illness and provide them with a variety of services to address the barriers that have kept them homeless.

Animal Services was recognized for their program to aid the homeless by providing care and shelter for their animals.

Human Services won an award for their Business Advantage Network – Clean Slate program, which assists job seekers with minimizing the impact of their criminal records on their employment efforts.

For these programs to be eligible, each had to accomplish one or more of the following:

-Offer new services to county residents, fill gaps in the availability of services, fill gaps in or tap new revenue sources and improve the administration of an existing county government program

  • Upgrade the working conditions or level of training for county employees and enhance the level of citizen participation in, or the understanding of, government programs
  • Provide information that facilitates effective public policy making
  • Promote intergovernmental cooperation and coordination in addressing shared problems
