September is Library Card Sign-up Month, when libraries nationwide join the American Library Association (ALA) to remind parents, caregivers, and students that signing up for a library card is the first step on the path to academic achievement and lifelong learning. Sign-up today!

This year, Tony Award-winning performer, actress, singer-songwriter, and philanthropist Idina Menzel (Frozen, Wicked) and her sister, author and educator Cara Mentzel, will serve as honorary chairs of Library Card Sign-Up Month. Idina and Cara are excited to remind everyone that one of the best places to find your voice is at the library. During Library Card Sign-Up Month, they want us to explore all the library has to offer, like new children’s books, access to technology, and educational programming.

Placer County Library along with libraries everywhere, continues to adapt and expand services to meet the evolving community needs. To sign up for a library card or to learn more about the library’s resources and programs, please visit your neighborhood branch or placer.ca.gov/Library.

Check out these top reasons for having a library card from Placer County Library:

  1. Books: Access books in different forms like eBooks, audiobooks (and eAudiobooks!), large print, and more!
  2. Librarians: Friendly, search-savvy folks who look forward to helping YOU connect to what you need, whether that be your next favorite book or where to find voter information.
  3. Branches: There are 7 PCL locations through the county, all the way north to Tahoe to out in Foresthill. You can also visit a PCL mobile services stop or our virtual branch at placer.ca.gov/Library for the most current information and to connect with resources.
  4. My Account: Your library account allows you to place and manage items on hold, and designate a branch for convenient pick-up. You may also create and share lists to help you track your reading and other items you love from the library.
  5. Movies: Check out DVDs or stream films on Kanopy and Hoopla.
  6. CA State Parks Passes.

There are many more reasons to love your library. If you already have a library card, make it your mission to get a friend or family member to sign up for their library card in September.
