1. How do I get a Library Card?

We're glad you asked! To obtain a library card, please visit any one of our Placer County Library locations and fill out a library card application. For all the details on obtaining library cards, see Get a Library Card.

2. I lost my library card, what do I do?

If your library card is lost or stolen, report it to the library immediately.

3. What is my Password/Personal Identification Number (PIN)?

When the library transitioned to the new ILS (Polaris) in February of 2018, all PINs were set to the last four digits of the telephone number you provided when you registered for your card.  The last four digits of the provided telephone number is also what staff set as the password/pin when you register for a new card.  We strongly recommend you change your PIN to make it more secure.

4. How do I reserve a computer?

Procedures for reservations and length of usage vary among our locations. Please contact your library for more information.

• Placer County Library offers computer workstations with Internet access at each of its locations.
• Computer usage is free.
• Printouts are $0.15 per page.
• Computer users must have a Placer County Library card in good standing.
• All users must read and sign the Computer Acceptable Use Policy.

5. What forms of payment does the Library accept?

• All Placer County Library locations accept cash or checks in person.
• Credit or debit cards are accepted in person at Auburn, Granite Bay, and Rocklin Libraries only.
• Credit or debit card payments are not accepted by phone or online.
• Acceptable credit or debit cards: 
  • MasterCard
  • Visa
• The library does not accept American Express or Apple Pay.

6. Does the Library have books for sale?

Yes. Book sales are held throughout the year by the Library's Friends of the Library groups. For times and dates, view the Friends of the Library page. Some of the Friends groups have websites:

7. Does the library have tax forms?

For best results, please give us a call before you make a trip. Some branches stock the most commonly used tax booklets, forms, and instructions in limited supply and for as long as supplies last. Federal Tax forms, instructions, and publications are available online at the Internal Revenue Service website. California State tax forms and instructions are available online at the California State Franchise Tax Board website. The nearest IRS office is at 4330 Watt Avenue in Sacramento.
