My current Carry Concealed Weapon license expires prior to my availability to come in and renew. May I continue to carry my weapon(s)?: No. Any expired Carry Concealed Weapon (CCW) license is invalid and it is illegal to carry a concealed weapon in the state of California if you do not have a valid CCW license granted by a county within the state. Sheriff - Concealed Carry Weapons - Renewing or Modifying License

1. Is renewing a Carry Concealed Weapon license automatically done?: No, Carry Concealed Weapon license holders are responsible for ensuring the proper training has been received. For more information, contact the Concealed Carry Weapons office.

2. My current Carry Concealed Weapon license expires prior to my availability to complete the renewal application. May I continue to carry my weapon(s)?: No. Any expired Carry Concealed Weapon (CCW) license is invalid and it is illegal to carry a concealed weapon in the state of California if you do not have a valid CCW license granted by a county within the state. We do allow a permit holder up to 120 days to complete the renewal process without having to start as a new applicant, but you may not legally carry until you have your renewed license on your person. 4. Can I modify or alter my weapon?: Yes, we allow modification to enhance the sighting and grips. We do not allow modifications to the weapons that would alter it from the manufacturer’s original specification. Read more on our Weapons page.

5. What do I need to do if I have changed my address and still live in Placer County?: You must report any change of residence to Placer County Sheriff's Office in writing within 10 days. In addition you must complete the Carry Concealed Weapon Modification form online with required documentation. Your permit will be modified and mailed to you once your application and all documents have been received.

6. What do I need to do if I have moved out of Placer County, but remain in California?: You must report any change of residence to Placer County Sheriff's Office in writing within 10 days. In addition you must complete the Carry Concealed Weapon Modification form online with required documentation. Your permit will be modified and mailed to you once your application and all documents have been received. Your permit will remain valid for the remainder of its term or 90 days from notice whichever expires first.
