I am interested in working an Extra Help Position. How do I find out about applying?

The County of Placer offers extra help employment for specific classifications. Our Sheriff’s Office utilizes extra help staff to maintain minimum staffing levels, complete special projects, staff Court Security stations, and cover vacant shifts due to employees on vacation or sick leave. Extra help classifications are recruited for in the same manner as other permanent positions. To view what recruitments are currently accepting applications, visit the Placer County Human Resources online JOBS bulletin board on the employment portal.

If Placer county is not currently accepting applications for the classification(s) you are interested in, you can submit an interest card for the position(s) you are seeking and the County’s Online job-application service (called JOBS) will electronically email a notification when the an application can be submitted. Interest cards stay on file for up to 12 months. To submit an interest card, employment portal and navigate to “Notify me of New Job Openings.” Follow the instructions on submitting your interest. You can check any Job Group you are interested in. Please note Deputy Sheriff Positions are listed under “Public Safety/Law Enforcement.”

Extra Help deputies are typically assigned to our Court Security Services, Background Investigations, Concealed Weapons or Civil Units. Civilian staff may be assigned to a variety of units within the Sheriff’s Office depending on the classification and need for staffing.
