About the Bookmobile

The Placer County Bookmobile is a full-service traveling library offering books, magazines, audio books, CDs, and DVDs for all ages. Staff can assist in book selections, provide reference service, and fill requests for specific titles.

Library Specialist:Michael McCurdy.

History of the Bookmobile

The Placer County Bookmobile was established to provide library services to the rural areas of the County. On October 19, 1970, the Bookmobile made its first scheduled stop at Kingvale. It was replaced once in 1984 with a new Gerstenslager Bookmobile. The Bookmobile has traveled over 300,000 miles checking out books, magazines, and paperbacks; filling requests and distributing information; and helping library users of all ages.

In 2016, the Gerstenslager Bookmobile was retired and replaced with a new state of the art Bookmobile thanks in part to a grant from the Air Pollution Control District to the Placer County Department of Public Works and Facilities.
