Supervisors Delay Decision on Moving Tahoe Basin Animal Services
January 21, 2015
After listening to impassioned comments from the Tahoe Basin community, the Placer County Board of Supervisors today voted to delay making a decision on whether to move animal services to the Town of Truckee’s animal shelter. At the regular board meeting today in Tahoe City, county staff asked for approval of a 30-year contract with the Town of Truckee to use its newly constructed animal shelter and close Placer County’s Tahoe Vista shelter.
Community members who spoke at the meeting asked the Supervisors for six months to formulate a plan on how to deal with replacement of an aging Tahoe Vista shelter that is nearing the end of its life expectancy. Supporters will have the allotted time to figure out land coverage issues for constructing a new shelter in the Basin, financing options, staffing and other details that would need to dealt with before the board would consider keeping these services in the Basin. The issue will be addressed again at the next Board of Supervisors’ Tahoe meeting in July.
